On Sept. 3, 2017 McDougall United Church members and our friends from other Affirming Ministries in Calgary marched in the 27th Annual Calgary Pride Parade. With a banner reading "Live Your Love" members marched in solidarity and celebrated all identities and expressions while walking by tens of thousands of spectators.
Stay tuned for more events from the Affirming Committee which will be organizing a one-year celebration of its membership into Affirm United this December.
During 10 a.m. worship service, we welcomed Boban Stojanovic to speak for our Pride Service. In 2016, Stojanovic and his partner Adam Puskar, two LGBTQ activists and leading figures of Belgrade Pride were forced into exile. Fearing for their lives and safety they fled Serbia and gained refugee status in Canada this past March.
I can’t believe it’s already September! We have had a busy summer here at McDougall. We welcomed Tony Snow as our Community Care Coordinator in June, and Pam Rocker as our Director of Family and Spiritual Development in July. Thanks to everyone for making them feel at home in our McDougall family.Read More
Back-to-school prep isn’t easy for struggling families that can’t afford notebooks and pencils, but you can help students in developing countries by building a school kit. Grab a school supply list and a bag or two on the table outside of the Chapel.
Once you’ve filled the bag you can return it to the bin on the same table. We know our congregants always go beyond the call for help and may want to overstuff their bags, but we encourage you to stick to the list so students don’t feel left out. If you’re feeling more generous, you can always grab a couple more!
- 4 spiral or perforated notebooks (about 21.5 cm x 27 cm; with a combined total of 500 - 600 pages), OR 7 notebooks of 80 pages.
- 8 unsharpened pencils
- 1 ruler (flat, flexible plastic; indicating both 30 cm and 12 in)
- 12 coloured pencils (in packaging)
- 1 large pencil eraser
If you have questions you can call Peggy Hoops at 403-271-9673.
Get ready to show your Pride! March in the Pride Parade is important to McDougall, as we walk in solidarity and celebration of all identities and expressions, and embody the love of God for all.Read More
