Soup’s On Sunday: Back April 7

Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy a bowl of soup after the service on Sunday, March 3. The event would not have happened without our amazing volunteers (listed below) who helped prepare the soup on Saturday and then served on Sunday, thank you! Now that we have had a trial run, we are looking forward to bring it back each month with a few changes. This program started with two goals in mind; build fellowship and community in the kitchen while also using it as a fundraiser for the church. We met the first goal with flying colors (thank you Paula Sangster for all you hard work coordinating all the volunteers and overseeing the kitchen). However, in order to turn this into a fundraiser for the church, we are going to have to forgo the good will offering and start charging. Starting on April 7th, you will be able to get a bowl of soup and a bun for $5. We will have lots of soup so you will be able to come up multiple times (at $5 a bowl) or take some home ($5 per bowl). We are also looking at having some pre-order forms so that you could order larger family sized soups or simple but nutritious meals that you could take home for a dinner later in the week or month. As we will not have a “Soup’s on Sunday” in May (the Chinook Region Annual Conference takes place at McDougall that weekend) this may not start up right away. Either way we are excited to have some fun in the kitchen all while doing some fundraising for McDougall.

Mark your calendar for April 7 following the service. You will be able to enjoy chicken vegetable soup with chicken and cilantro stuffed wonton and/or a hearty vegetable bean soup (vegetarian). Both soups are gluten free. We will also have fresh bread and a treat to satisfy your sweet tooth.

We are looking for volunteers to prepare the soups. If you are interested in joining Paula and some other amazing volunteers please let us know by filling in the form below. Our next soup cooking day is Saturday, April 6th starting at 10 am. We are also looking for a food storage bag sealer, if you have one you are not using that you are willing to donate or can make it available for our use please let us know via the below form.

Thank you to March’s volunteers. Cooks: Paula Sangster, Sherill Holt, Janet Hansen and June Clark. Sunday morning helpers and servers: Sonia Dodd, Marilyn Bates, Margaret Holden-Scott and Brian Scott. Thank you all for sharing your talents with us!
