The Benevolent Fund: Matching Donation Opportunity

Matching Donation Opportunity

Thanks to the generosity of a committed supporter, our community has been given a remarkable opportunity: all gifts to the Benevolent Fund will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to a total of $10,000. In the weeks ahead, we’ll be sharing stories and insights into the meaningful work this fund makes possible, and the many ways it quietly strengthens individuals and families in times of need.

Your contribution during this matching period will go twice as far, providing sustained support for a ministry that plays a vital role in our shared life together.

What is The Benevolent Fund?

The Benevolent Fund is one of the quiet but essential ways McDougall, Ogden and Red Deer Lake United Churches live their shared ministry in the wider community.

When people face sudden crises such as an unexpected expense, housing instability, loss of income, or gaps in available support, help is not always immediate or accessible. The Benevolent Fund allows the church to respond with compassion, dignity, and timeliness. It provides short-term, confidential financial assistance to individuals and families experiencing immediate need, regardless of church affiliation.

This ministry is rooted in a core theological conviction: that every person bears the image of God and is worthy of care, dignity, and hope. Offering practical support in moments of vulnerability is one way the church embodies God’s love and participates in Christ’s call to love our neighbours.

Most of this work happens quietly. Names are never shared. Stories of people at their most vulnerable remain confidential. What remains visible is our church’s commitment to show up faithfully and responsibly when people need help most.

In the coming weeks, we will be sharing more about this ministry and inviting the congregation to consider how they might support it as part of our ongoing witness in the community.
