OBITUARY

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brian James Draper on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the age of 77 years.

Brian was born on September 27, 1948, in Edmonton, AB, where he lived for a short while before moving to Calgary, AB. Brian had many friends and made a few lifelong friends while attending Henry Wise Wood High School. He liked it so much that it took him five years to graduate!

He was an active young man and had a passion for hockey. Throughout his life, he played hockey as a goalie and excelled in the sport.

Brian started at Calgary Transit in 1974 and had a career lasting more than 40 years. He drove a bus, his favourite role, as well as the CTrain, and worked in dispatch. A couple of highlights during his career included driving a bus dressed as Santa Claus at Christmas and taking the mayor of Calgary, Ralph Klein, on the first CTrain ride.

In 1971, Brian married Gayle, and together they had two sons, Bradley and Jeffrey. They were married for 26 years. Brad and Jeff will carry forward Brian’s memory and the values he instilled in them.

In 2008, Brian married his high school sweetheart, Susan Baker. They enjoyed travelling, visiting friends, and attending the United Church in both Calgary and Okotoks, AB. They had many friends and loved spending time together.

Brian is survived by his brother, Dale Draper (Maha Salem). He was predeceased by his wife, Susan Baker, his parents, Helen and Lloyd Draper; and his brother, Doug Draper.

He will be remembered for his steady presence, his sense of humour, and the quiet ways he showed his care for those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication to both his family, friends, and work, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Brian’s Life will be held at a later date. The family encourages those who wish to honour Brian’s memory to do so through acts of kindness.
