2024 - Leadership Council First Quadrimestre Report (January – April 2024)
The first part of 2024 has been a busy one for your Leadership Council. We held two regularly scheduled meetings, hosted a Town Hall Meeting, held our Annual General Meeting, and conducted a congregational survey.
McDougall is extremely fortunate to have so many volunteers and staff members to be a part of this council. We would like to extend our thanks to the outgoing members-at-large Ken Turnbull, and Maria Crozier and outgoing Foundation Chair Phil Edwards for their participation in the Leadership Council. We would like to welcome our new members-at-large Shauna Kennedy, Sonia Dodd, Patrick Meenagh and Foundation Chair Ken Meuse and look forward to their viewpoints at our meetings this coming year.
Highlights from our meetings include:
Chinook Winds conference to be held at McDougall United Church May 2-5. Rev. Bob Mutlow is heading a committee to oversee McDougall’s commitment in hosting this event.
The Shared Ministry between McDougall, Ogden, and Red Deer Lake United Churches has been a major point of discussion at our meetings. Joanne Pritchard has been involved in the drafting and signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between all three churches. Joanne shared that the joint M&P team will be conducting their first review of the Shared Ministry Team initiative in April. They are committed to providing their first report to the three Boards/Council in early May.
The South Calgary Cluster (includes McDougall, Ogden, Red Deer Lake, Fish Creek, Lakeview, and Southview) is beginning to plan joint social justice initiatives in the areas such as the UCC Reconciliation Calls for Action Call and our shared Affirming values.
Budget challenges continue to be a point of focus and the congregational survey has provided us with an understanding of how the congregation feels about key areas of the budget. Over the next few months, a review of the budget and the needed adjustments will be considered. A revised budget for July to August 2024 will be presented to the congregation at the upcoming June 2nd congregational meeting. More details regarding this meeting will be forthcoming.
