Prayer for Jamaica

Jamaica continues to be in our prayers with the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa. Please join us as we pray….

God of mercy,

we weep for the people of Jamaica.

For the darkest night that has left its mark,

with homes and hearts torn apart,

and the devastation of what remains.

We grieve for lives and livelihoods lost,

for families separated,

for the ache of those who have waited through the storm,

and those who still wait with fear and uncertainty for word of loved ones.

We confess that,

in the aftermath of such tragedies as this,

we find it difficult to trust

that you are present in the ruins, O God.

And yet we cling to the hope that,

when there are no words to make sense of it all,

you draw near and weep with those for whom tears are all that remain;

where words have failed

and faith feels fragile and far away.

Even in the wreckage,

help us to see human hearts at work:

the neighbours who wade through floodwaters,

the hands that lift debris and tend the wounded,

the ones who carry food, light, and comfort

into places still shadowed by fear,

and bless every act of courage, compassion, and care.

Let your presence be known in small mercies:

a hand extended,

a light restored,

a phone call that goes through,

a door that opens to shelter,

a meal shared among strangers,

a loved one found safe.

In these quiet moments,

remind your people they are not alone.

In the long silence after the storm,

in the waiting, the wondering, and the weariness,

hold your people in your enduring love.

In Christ’s name we pray.

Amen.
